The best thing about losing 40 pounds of pregancy weight gain is that the first 20 or so melt away like a dream. Well, perhaps "a dream" isn't quite the best categorization, since in the past two weeks I've lost 20 pounds only through having major abdominal surgery, delivering a baby, and sweating. Nevertheless, I don't know that I can fairly say I "worked" to lost that weight, so I am therefore not giving myself a big prize.
The other thing about post-pregnancy weight loss is that I can't really cut calories since I'm nursing, so I'll still be eating around 2100-2400 calories a day. And I don't really count calories, so maybe I'm eating more than that. The point is, I have to eat a lot in order to be healthy and make Mommy's Magic Milk. Yet I know that I'll slowly lose the weight (once the initial plunge is over) if I exercise and eat well. They say all calories are not created equal, and that is definitely true. Three hundred calories of fruit, for example, is a lot better for weight loss than 300 calories of ice cream. So that's the plan. Eating smart. Now I just have to figure out what that means, realistically.
Truth be told, I probably won't start being really deliberate about what I eat for another week or two. Jeremy's mom will be in town next week, then I think it'll take me another week or so to get re-organized and to regroup. That's the hope, anyway.
Hopefully you're not reading this and thinking, "Wow. That's quite a weight loss plan." Don't worry. I'll have a more concrete set of plans soon.
P.S. What should some of our blog features be? Should we post about what we eat so we can bounce ideas off each other? Should we each post a weekly recipe? Thoughts?
Bon appetit!
